Collective memory & visual art in the face of climate events: In conversation with Rhiân Williams

Three years after Australia’s devastating Black Summer, what are the lessons learnt and what role is there for the arts to create space to negotiate and process new realities generated by climate change?

On May 7 2023, I explored these questions (with an appreciative audience) alongside volunteer firefighter and children’s author, Rhiân Williams (whose voice was heard in the exhibition Between Presumption and Melancholy video series at PhotoAccess). Williams who is passionate about nature conservation and collaborative problem-solving, has published many children’s books, among them Emergency Emergency — Vehicles to the Rescue (published by Wild Dog Books with illustrations by Tom Jellett).
